DOOMED' TRESS GO TO BARREN FT. JAY; Army Carting Away Museum's Grove to Plant Around Shadeless Housing Areas

The heart of Manhattan has proved to be an unexpectedly rich source for tree-starved Army personnel stationed at Fort Jay on Governors Island. Yesterday two trucks from Fort Jay, which bore the somewhat odd label, "Preventive," carted two linden trees away from the garden of the Museum of Modern Art. 11 West Fifty-third Street.
